MONACO 2005

Ralf finished 6th at the Monaco GP. He passed a number of cars and finished with 3 points. Ralf: "First of all thanks to the whole Panasonic Toyota Racing team for putting the car together after my accident yesterday. It was a great effort and the car went through the whole race so I'm really happy about that. It's a pity about what happened on Saturday because I could have ended up with even more points, but I had a very good day today. In the early laps I passed a few slower cars into Mirabeau, then I was held up in traffic. After the safety car period I began moving through the field. Then at the end I was in a long chain of cars behind Alonso who was going slowly. With the Ferraris behind me it was a bit difficult. Then Michael made rather a strong move on the line and we nearly crashed. Still, it's great to end up with three points"

Tsutomu Tomita (team principal) "It was a very good race from Ralf and it was a very good, richly deserved result. After his crash yesterday, to drive a completely rebuilt car from last to sixth is a very good performance" Ralf salvages Toyota points

Ralf started the Monaco GP 17th on the grid with just JPM behind him.

Ralf had headache (22 May) Ralf complained of a headache in the hours following his big shunt at Monaco. But his manager, Willi Weber, also said that "everything else is fine".

Ralf's verdict on his crash in 1st qualifying (21 May) The car was fine around the lap but I clipped the inside of the barrier at Tabac with my left front wheel, which sent me into the other side of the barriers. Thankfully I'm perfectly okay. I got out of the car without any trouble and I have no other problems. But it's been a bad weekend for me and it means that we will be starting from the back tomorrow.

Monaco Mishap (21 May) The accident occurred just a few minutes from the end of the fourth practice session on Saturday morning. Ralf came out of the pits and appeared to spoil a quick lap from Montoya, who vented his frustration by slowing down on the way up the hill after passing Ralf, who duly slowed. David Coulthard was immediately behind and as he tried to take avoiding action he was hit by an unsighted Jacques Villeneuve. The Red Bull turned right, collecting the Toyota and sending it into a spin... as there were only a couple of minutes to go, the session was not restarted. Ralf failed to set a time after a heavy crash.

Ralf rues Michelin blunder (21 May) Ralf has described his half-second qualifying penalty for running a wrong tyre at Monaco "very painful... Any chance of a good result have basically disappeared. It is so difficult, I would say impossible, to pass at Monaco".

Crash halts Monaco qualifying (21 May) Ralf crashed heavily in first qualifying for the Monaco GP, forcing the session to be halted with oil and debris scattered across the track. He stepped out shaken but unscathed after his car's front left wheel touched the barriers as he entered the fast Tabac corner on Saturday, damaging the steering and sending the Toyota across the track. The second impact shattered the right side of the car, leaving it a smouldering wreck.

Michelin apologise to Toyota over Ralf penalty (20 May) "We have apologised, no excuses whatsoever" (one of Ralf's tyres had been incorrectly marked) "Be sure that all our quality processes are very straight and we do all we can to prevent stupidity like that but sometimes it happens. We should have done better"

Ralf "number two"? (20 May) Ralf has denied he is standing on the cusp of becoming an unwilling 'number two' at Toyota. He told Spanish newspaper Marca: "Unlike some other teams Jarno and I can have the exact same equipment. There is so need for a number one, number two driver". Ralf also predicted that regular wins for Toyota are at least one more year away. "It's a gradual process".

Ralf handed qualifying penalty (19 May) Ralf was ordered to add a half second penalty to his Monaco GP aggregate qualifying time after a tyre error in free practice. He was found to have used a left front tyre that had not been officially allocated to him. Supplier Michelin blamed human error. The time penalty will be Ralf's second in three races. He lost a point at the San Marino GP after being given a 25-second penalty for a pit lane offence. Ralf was ninth fastest in free practice on Thursday.

Toyota trio left looking for grip (19 May) An article on Monaco practice. Ralf: "We had a pretty good day and we completed a lot of laps, getting through all our work without any problems".

Toyota on Monaco Try and ignore they're taking an extra car incase of crashes... And just incase you didn't know about this: No penalty for Toyota from the FIA Earlier articles were saying they could have had all their points taken from them but no action is being taken. Phew!

Monaco GP - Toyota - Preview Ralf heads to Monaco fresh from his fourth place in Barcelona, a result that moved him up into a share of fourth in the drivers' championship on 14 points. Now he is ready for the mental challenge of 78 laps of skimming Monaco's unforgiving barriers.

Ralf: "I used to live in Monaco and I still have a holiday home on the Côte d'Azur so this race feels like something of a second home to me. I've always had good results around the Principality too, so I like driving there. But it requires a special approach, not least because of the proximity of the barriers. That makes the Monaco Grand Prix tough both physically and mentally because any lapse in concentration is certain to be punished by retirement from the race"

"It's a bumpy circuit and a strong performance depends heavily on the tyres that you get. And, because it is so difficult to overtake, qualifying becomes especially important. To predict how Toyota will perform, let's go there first and see how we look in Thursday's practice sessions. As a street circuit, the track is particularly dusty on the opening day so selecting the right Michelin compound will be tricky. But if our car works as well there as it did in Barcelona then we have a good chance of another strong result"

SPAIN 2005

Spanish GP News: Ralf outqualified Trulli for the first time this season and ran ahead of him in the early stages of the race. But Trulli’s slightly longer opening stint paid dividends and the pair swapped places at the first round of pit stops (To the dismay of Ralf's fans everywhere)

Ralf finished 4th place in the Spanish GP. He ran with his nose under team-mate Jarno Trulli's gearbox for two-thirds of the race before finishing a fraction of a second behind. The result moves him up to equal 4th with 14 points. Spanish GP Result

Ralf: "That was a long, hard race. It's great to score so many points again and in general the race went well. I gained a place at the start and kept pushing throughout the afternoon. Unfortunately I lost ground on Jarno in the first pitstops and from then on I had to push him all the way. It was a busy race but I had no real problems with the car or tyres, so I'm happy with the way it went. It's great for the team that we have brought home 11 points between us today"

Jarno also said: "This was one of the best races of my career because I really had to fight for the whole of the race to keep ahead of Ralf. Ralf was very quick and probably today he deserved a podium as well as me"

Michael Schumacher took the time to single out Toyota's Spanish speed: They are going for the victory. After Imola, I did not expect that but they've obviously worked well to improve.

Final Qualifying
4. R Schumacher (Toyota) 2:31.917
5. J Trulli (Toyota) 2:31.995
8. M Schumacher (Ferrari) 2:33.551

This is Ralf's best qualifying performance of 2005 so far. Sun 8th May: Both drivers complained of understeer during their laps and while Ralf was able to maintain his position from yesterday, Jarno dropped onto the third row from his provisional pole. Understeer hinders Toyota

Ralf: "Today was a difficult morning because I had a lot of understeer in the car. We're not sure yet where it was coming from so we'll have to check the data and look into that. I still think we can aim for a good result in the race, especially coming from the second row. Both of us have had a good weekend so far - probably even better than we expected before the event. Now I'm looking forward to the race which will be long and tough. Overtaking is very hard here so a lot of what happens will depend on what strategy teams have chosen"

A historic day for Toyota Sat 7th May: Ralf 4th on provisional pole. He will look to use his position on the second row as a springboard for a major challenge in the Spanish GP. He ended up just 0.075s behind his pole-sitter team-mate and will now look to put in his customary strong performance in Sunday qualifying and the race in order to push even further up the order.

Ralf: "I'm happy with my lap, which was good and clear. Perhaps I was a bit too cautious in the windy final sector, but to finish so close to the front is great news. I ended up only 75 thousandths of a second off pole, so I can't complain! In the end, it could have gone either way but even though I am not on provisional pole I am still confident looking ahead to tomorrow. The performance is there, the car is there, the tyres are there and I'm very confident with the car on race fuel. So now I will look to capitalise on this good start in the race. Tomorrow's another day and that's what counts"

Yahoo: Ralf set the pace in final practice for the Spanish GP. Ralf drove a lap of one minute 14.280 seconds. That time was well inside Michael's 2004 pole position for Ferrari of 1:15.022.
